Being a teenager as I still am, and not being able to actually afford a whole lot of anything cool, configurators are about the closest I can get. I must say, McLaren's new setup is probably one of the best I've seen in a long time. I'll take my 650s in Volcano Orange please.

Here's the link if you wanna try it out:

I was torn between the two, I was going to post one with the black side intakes, but I posted this on my phone and it wasn't cooperating.

It's true, orange McLaren is best McLaren.

What can I say? I like carbon fibre.

For me, the intakes are the only must have for carbon fiber.

Odd, that's the ONLY think I DIDN'T CF. Looks odd in blue with carbon vents and air dam.

I was disappointed that they don't offer the roof snorkel for the regular car yet.

No. Red and white is the best McLaren.

I'm a bit annoyed at their color representation because Volcano Red is absolutely stunning in person but simply looks ok here.

Might be time to upgrade to a more limited edition? Don't worry, I can look after your current MP4. Saw one in traffic the other day, can confirm it still breaks necks.

I rather like the more obscure sports car, even if they aren't the winners on the track, in the editorials nor in the maintenance department. This is why I keep revisiting a GT-R instead of the no-brainer 911 purchase.

Potentially, my friend, and thank you for the offer. I'm glad she would be going to a good home.

That's nice to hear. I'm still surprised at how many people don't know what it is.

Being different is a great thing. It's what keeps life interesting.

I love McLaren, but they ruined the 650S with that P1 front end. The P1 lost a bit of its luster too as its design has been tacked on to a lesser model.

Anytime... Being different begs the question. Given the option to purchase only one $50-85K car new/used, what do you choose to start the collection?

That question is a lot more difficult to answer as you want something that you personally enjoy, provides an incredible driving experience and arguably isn't something you see on the road daily.

I know my personal answer, but the gf is interested in jointly shopping which 1) decreases my personal financial burden and 2) adds another picky opinion.

Hmm... that definitely is quite a tricky question.

What would your personal answer be? Also, what sort of taste does your girlfriend have?

On a semi-related note, I didn't realize 912s have begun to take off in value. However, I do like this one:

As a classic, the 911 is the right choice. Either a 964 or 993 would peak my interest and destroy my wallet.

If I am staying modern and out of my own pocket, 100% shopping a 987 Cayman R or Boxster Spyder. I get my joys driving the canyons on a weekend in a small agile car (MT) and the Cayman feels like a proper upgrade from the FR-S. I also fulfill my childhood dream of owning a Porsche, albeit sacrificing the 911 presence. Spyder styling and open air vert' would be gravy on top.

My girlfriend finds the Cayman rather mundane and detests the Boxster Spyder speed humps. Her taste is more F-Type, GT-R and R8.

Fine choices. A Cayman R or Boxster Spyder would be terrific.

Interesting. Well, I'm glad that you have a partner that seems to at least have an interest in vehicles.

Amen.

Back to the real question. Given the recent major releases in sports cars are you looking to add to your stable, or thinking classics instead?

Yes, I am looking to add to my stable and modern for sure. I've owned or driven most of the interesting classics back in the day.
